What Does Your Age Trajectory Tell You About How You Will Spend the Rest of Your Life?

What direction is your age trajectory pointing?

Most people who are 50 plus can expect to live an additional twenty to thirty years, maybe more! The question each one has to ask is, “How do you want to spend those years?” Everyone who doesn’t die suddenly will spend time being frail and in a wheelchair. For some, that will be a few days or weeks, and for others, it will years, maybe ten, twenty , or thirty years! Ultimately the choice is yours.

Look at this chart from the Functional Aging Institute. It shows two life trajectories through the three main stages of life: early life, adult life, and older maturity.

The top/dark line reflects the capabilities of someone consciously investing in their health and fitness. The bottom line is the trajectory of someone who becomes increasingly sedentary as they age (often believing that’s just what old age looks like).

What decisions are you making every day that are influencing the direction of your age trajectory?

As you can see, it’s the decisions we make right now that determine how we spend the rest of our lives. What small changes can you start making that will positively impact your age trajectory and the quality of your longevity. The solution is simple, yet difficult to do. Move more, eat better, get enough sleep, and manage stress!

It is never too early or late for fitness! If not now, when!
