Many studies have been conducted in major university departments across the U.S. For example, one study in 2004 at Georgetown University, Washington D. C. published in the Journal of Medicine found that the major component hydroxycitric acid was safe and useful for weight loss. A clinical study over eight weeks on 60 volunteers who were given daily doses of hydroxycitric acid showed significant weight loss. They received 2800mg of in three equal doses 30 to 60 minutes before meals. The researches measured body weight, body mass (BMI), lipid profiles, serum leptin, serotonin and excretion of urinary fat metabolites at 0, 4, and 8 weeks.
